The job market is competitive in any industry. And though criminal justice program students in Pennsylvania have a bit of an advantage if they plan to pursue a role with the State Troopers, candidates applying to any CJ role must build well-rounded resumes.

Becoming a student member of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (ACJS) is a great way to complement your academic credentials with networking opportunities, annual meetings and access to a fantastic variety of CJ journals. Headquartered in Greenbelt, Maryland, ACJS recently held its conference in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

According to the ACJS membership homepage: “The Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences is an international association established in 1963 to foster professional and scholarly activities in the field of criminal justice. ACJS promotes criminal justice education, research, and policy analysis within the discipline of criminal justice for both educators and practitioners. Providing a forum for disseminating ideas related to issues in research, policy, education, and practice within the field, ACJS attributes its success in creating this dynamic professional association to the composition of its membership.

So how does all of that help CJ students?

President of the ACJS Dr. Brian Payne explains, “The Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences provides students an opportunity to network with other criminal justice students as well as faculty, criminal justice practitioners, and policy makers who are committed to using evidence to improve criminal justice practices.

“At our annual conference, topics come alive through presentations by researchers, professors, practitioners and students themselves.”

Membership for criminal justice students is only $30 per year and includes a wealth of resources. To read the full list of what you’ll receive as a member, click here.
